Bedford Creative Arts brand identity development

Brand identity development, implementation across all channels and relaunch for Bedford Creative Arts.

Bedford Creative Arts (BCA) was established in 1985 and grew out of a project initially launched by Bedfordshire County Council’s Arts Development department. BCA gained independence from the local authority in 2004 and became an Arts Council regularly funded organisation in 2008.
The management team felt that the brand was tired and the organisation’s marketing and communication materials lacked the passion, excitement and energy that were a feature of its people, projects and sector.
The challenge for Bonfire was to create a new brand identity that not only firmly positioned BCA within the creative community and encouraged up and coming artists to get involved with community, but could also relate to the corporate world where the organisation also works to secure funding, sponsorship and support.
Having evolved since its inception, BCA had flourished as a charity and the new identity had to reflect its creative approach to commissioning participatory public art. The red and black colour palette was adopted as a powerful statement along with a focus on making the most of the high-impact and engaging images associated with its work, and the artists it works with.
The brand identity created ensured BCA had clear stand-out in its marketplace and could be utilised consistently and clearly across the organisation.
Soon after the new branding was applied to initial channels, including corporate literature, and social media, the circulation of the BCA’s quarterly programme has increased from a few hundred to over 2,000.
The website was launched to great praise. A fully content managed site was delivered to give BCA complete control in maintaining and updating content. Feedback from the organisation and all stakeholders has been extremely positive and the number of monthly visitors quadrupled in the first quarter of launch, compared to the same period the year before.
