The Big Draw

Bonfire’s Andrew Foster, has taken part in The Big Draw event held in October – the world’s largest drawing festival with events all around the country. The event was organised by fellow designer and illustrator Richard Slade and his wife Clair, with the support and funding of local authorities across Bedfordshire.
Andrew and Richard met at a monthly Creative Bedfordshire meeting only a few weeks earlier where Richard was giving a talk. After chatting together they realised they lived only a couple of streets away and kept in touch.
The event took place in Barford Road Pocket Park in St Neots with a backdrop of the marina and utilised a theme of ‘It’s Our World’ – a celebration of our environment.
Large boards were painted white and Andrew and Richard illustrated a landscape of woodland, countryside and seaside across them for others to add to.
The event had a great turn out with young children, teenagers and adults alike adding all sorts of things including insects, vehicles, animals and even a dragon!
The weather stayed dry and refreshments were available throughout the day.
In addition to the drawing activity, there was face painting and the launch of a new project – Colour My Park – a map that children can colour in as they explore local parks (see http://colourmypark.co.uk/about/).
They are hoping to do another event next year.
