News Herts At War

Letchworth Garden City Collection (LGCC) briefed Bonfire to deliver an exhibition in an empty shop unit to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. This exhibition, whilst starting in Letchworth, was to be a roaming exhibition across the county of Hertfordshire and therefore needed to be portable and customisable for each future location.

This year long exhibition includes workshops and resources for schools, major volunteer research work on a whole number of topics, and most importantly a large-scale exhibition that will tour the county for the next five years, the duration of the conflict.

The exhibition will comprise a retelling of the story of the First World War in Hertfordshire – the 143 men who served, life at home, women, conscientious objectors, refugees and much more.

As the exhibition then tours each location, an area will be customised and dedicated to stories from that town, not least the individuals named on their local war memorial(s).
